Guest Design Post (Part 2): Altered Perfume Bottle By Preeti Datta

Hi friends 🙂

Preeti D. (aka Dutt Preety) here. This is my second Guest Design Post for Madras Bazaar. In case, you’d like to check out Part 1, please click HERE. I’ve used the Madras Bazaar Pearl Ink Sprays here. These are alcohol based, so for blending the colors, you will need the blending solution. These dry fast and give a shimmery look to the project.

I’ve created a Mixed Media Altered Perfume Bottle for you today. I had a lot of fun making it, so let’s get started.

  1. Took an empty perfume bottle and applied 2 coats of heavy white gesso on it to prep the surface
  2. Using 3D matte gel adhered a few metal charms to the bottle.
  3. Applied white crackle paste to the bottle and let it air dry so as to get the desired crackle effect
  4. Added art stones at some places using 3D matte gel & brushed on some white gesso on the charms and art stones
  5. Once everything was dry, applied color using 3 of the Pearl Ink spraysCharcoal Black, Vibrant Green & Shock Blue
  6. To finish the project, applied a little Opal Magic Wax to some of the raised surfaces using my fingers.

That’s all for today.

Thanks a lot for having me as a Guest Designer 🙂

Artist Trading Cards or ATCs

Artist Trading Cards or ATCs are miniature pieces of art. These are 2.5 by 3.5 inches in size and they are swapped between artists & crafters. These can be created in a set around a certain theme. For example, in the set of ATCs I have made, there are 3 in it and they are all made using the same colors and style. I wanted these to be simple, flat & easy to re-create.

Process:

Slideshow: Photo Tutorial

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

  1. Cut thick white cardstock to the ATC size of 2.5 by 3.5 inches
  2. Spray on colors using three Madras Bazaar Pearl Ink Sprays
  3. Stamp on the ATCs using Archival Black Ink
  4. Add background stenciling by scribbling a black zig marker through the Tim Holtz dot fade stencil and then spray on water
  5. Darken the edges of the ATCs with Black archival ink and a blending tool & foam
  6. In the end, add a border and dots using white acrylic paint & titles using Tim Holtz stickers

That’s all for today. Hope you liked the projects and will give them a go 🙂

Thanks for your precious time 🙂

Tutorial – Resin Printed Film by GDT Krithika

Happy Monday Friends !

Today I will be showing you how to use this beautiful Printed Clear Films in Resin, Madrasbazaar has launched Beautiful 11 Patterns in it.  I have made 3 sets using these Printed films.

5 copy

Pour one thin layer of resin into the mold and allow it to cure for 5hrs

6 copy

Cut the required dichroic sheets according to the shape of the mold

7 copy

Once the resin is set, coat it again with a thin layer of resin, insert the cut dichroic sheet and adjust the position accordingly.

8 copy

Blow out the air bubbles, if any. Allow it to set for 2 hours

After 2hrs, mix the acrylic powders separately with freshly prepared resin. Allow it to set in the cup for and hour or until it becomes thick. Then pour the colors one by one on top of the set layer

Allow it to set for 24hours. Once fully cured pop it out of the mold.

Your printed dichroic sheet resin pieces are ready. You can either attach a bail /screw pin and add a hook for hanging earrings or stick a stud base on the back and use it as stud earrings.

You can try different patterns/ methods with the dichro sheets like adding glow in the dark pigment

similarly measured the other parts and stuck them too . stuck the top too similarly

IMG_5540.JPG
here is the finished look after attaching the paper

IMG_5541.JPG

used the trim and tacky tape to secure it in place

these were my focus element , the heart i painted in gold .

added the connected pearl string over a white satin ribbon.

i placed the chippie to the corner of the dome (for no just making the placement)

IMG_5548.JPG

used flowers from my stash and also added a ring embellishment
and stuck them with the glue gun

IMG_5662.JPG
i then poured loads of sequen to the center of the chippiee

IMG_5658.JPG
then using the glue gun stuck the dome using glue gun and covered the edge with the pearl string again

IMG_5566.JPG
later used the trim to create this broach out of paper and a quote from the                                              same paper pack and made a circular card for its base which fits the box.

But we are surely to pick up in the coming days.. so stay tuned with us for our next GDT call!!!

Now it’s time to welcome our sweet and talented Guest Design team members and our Blog coordinator:

meena herale

Hi, I’m Meena from India. I’m a differently able person (bedridden from past 10years). I have started doing Art and Craft from childhood as a hobby. I got interested in this by seeing my aunties.
When I was diagnosed with Spinal muscular atrophy type 2 when I was 12years old my life stopped there because this disease has no cure. I was broken and my all dreams was also broken, at that time I didn’t know what to do and how to come out of that. At that time my mom pushed me completely into the craft world. I did one year course in art and craft. I wanted to learn more in craft but no one was ready to teach me because I was differently able person, but I never gave up. I learnt everything from YouTube and from books.
I took my hobby as my professional from year 1999. I make fun fold cards, watercolouring, mixed media, DIY, altered work, scrapbook layout, hand embroidery, soft toys, decoupage, etc. I started blogging from February 2016. I don’t have any particular style. I love working on every style and try new techniques and things.
To me crafting is everything because through this I see outer world and can keep in touch with them. It is the only one thing which makes me to forget my disease and worries.

“Thankyou Meena for joining us here at madrasbazaar.”

First we have with us…

mrinal desai

Hello all,
This is Mrinaal Desai, i am Mechanical engineer and live in Mumbai.
I have been very much interested in art and craft since my childhood and i guess i have got that inherited from my Mom. Few years back i was fascinated by the art of quilling and since then never stopped.
Took my passion as proffession and kept finding new techiniques. Now after almost 4 years i am successfully running a page on Facebook with all the love, support of my family and friends. I keep experimenting new things in handmade jewelries. Playing with resin is my new found love.
Appreciation and encouragement keeps me going.
Hope to continue and grow my graph. !!
